How can you use ceiling fans in winter?

From Superfan, India’s first super energy efficient ceiling fan

In a closed space like a room with still air, the cooler air stays at the bottom, and the warm air rises to the ceiling. This segmentation of air happens due to the difference in the densities, and this phenomenon is called stratification. This becomes a problem in winters as the much-needed warm air recedes to the ceiling leaving the space close to the floor cooler. When heating elements are used to warm the space, it requires more heat generation to attain the required comfort for the occupant. A ceiling fan set to reverse or clockwise rotation can help with this problem by mixing up the air layers. This mixing up of air layers to prevent stratification is called destratification.

In India, ceiling fans are primarily used to cool down and attain thermal comfort. In addition to cooling down, the downward airflow generated by the ceiling fan mixes the air in the space. Using the fan to mix the air in its usual anticlockwise direction would make the occupant uncomfortable in winter due to the wind-chill effect. But if the ceiling fans run in a specific mode at a lower speed the mixing of the air would occur without the downward cooling airflow.

Superfan’s Super Q is India’s first high-flow ceiling fan, with an additional specific mode named ‘reverse’ intended to be used in winter for destratification. On switching the Super Q to reverse rotation mode, the fan rotates at an optimum speed in the clockwise direction mixing the hot air above and cold air below to keep the occupant warm in winter.

Super Q has a series of fans ranging from 600 to 1500 mm span size making it appropriate for every room size. Super Q features an innovative Q flow blade design technology that provides desired airflow at an optimal speed than other ceiling fans, keeping occupants refreshed without causing health problems such as nasal dryness and muscle stiffness. The unique reverse rotation mode adds another feather to the Super Q’s crown of flagship features, transforming it into a holistic ceiling fan.

Super Q, India’s most energy-efficient ceiling fan, which won the ‘Appliance of the Year’ award from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, India in 2020, has been featured as the ‘Most energy-efficient appliance of the year’ in the Labour & Industrial Chronicle’s Survey of Energy Conservation in India 2021.

  1. hello, ive a question

can i put small superfans (600mm, 900mm) in my bathrooms?

i’m renovating the rooms, but i’m worried the BLDC might fail in bathroom environment because of the humidity and it uses micro chip, which can corrode in wet conditions?

also whats the best place to buy your fans a good selection at competitive price? (i’m from Rajasthan, online options are convenient, but most of them are not deliverable, or very little choice)
other bldc fans cost approx 1000rs less than yours.

Thank you for reaching out. More than humidity, it is the condensation that may create a problem if not installed with proper precaution. As far as our knowledge, we have not observed any of our consumers using our ceiling fans in their bathroom, so we don’t have a use case to share.
